Connan Coker
Minister of Music & Worship
I serve as the Minister of Music and Worship here at First Baptist Church Tyler. I plan Sunday morning worship services and oversee music and worship involvement for all ages, from children and students to adults. I also help recruit and train volunteers for worship leadership and media, and I direct or supervise our musical ensembles.
As the son of a Minister of Music, I grew up in the church and came to faith as my understanding of God’s grace and forgiveness deepened. I can trace my personal response of faith to an Easter musical I watched from the balcony of our church in Falls Church, Virginia, when I was eight years old.
God brought my family and me to First Baptist Church Tyler in 2018 through the Music and Worship Minister search committee, and it has been a joy to serve here ever since.
My wife, Carrie, and I met at church while attending Baylor University and have been in love ever since. We have three amazing children, May, Annan, and Creed. Outside of ministry, I enjoy hiking, kayaking, disc golf, woodworking, collecting musical instruments, yard work, and the occasional nap. My favorite meal is a good steak, though I love anything spicy.
My hope is to see people transformed, engaged, and equipped to use their unique gifts in worship, serving God with joy and obedience.
