Director/Minister of Connections

General Job Description:

The role of Director of Connections (DOC) is to oversee the connection (integration) strategy of First Baptist Church, Tyler (FBC), both in person and digitally. The DOC will engage guests and lead them to next steps, facilitating relational connection and spiritual growth as well as the assimilation of new members. The primary goal of this position is to enable the church’s message to reach a broader audience beyond our doors and even our regular service times. Key responsibilities include creating, curating, and distributing content across various media platforms (social media, podcasts, live streams, websites, etc.), overseeing guest services, volunteer teams, membership strategies, and all other church communications. The Director/Minister of Connections will engage guests, facilitate their spiritual growth, and integrate new members into the church community. Job Classification:

This is an exempt (salaried) and full-time position.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited University

  • Basic ability to use computer software, such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel as well as other software necessary for website, video production and social media

Responsibilities:

1. Oversee and Execute “First Impressions:” Create an environment that welcomes new guests and provides next steps toward connection and spiritual growth

  • Lead, equip and empower guest service volunteers (ushers/greeters/First Friends etc.) in providing welcoming and favorable first impressions
  • Provide guest services based on best practices from innovative customer service focused ministries/organizations
  • Ensure “connections area,” signage and other key areas are clear, current, and focused on those new to FBC
  • Create and continuously improve follow-up methods to ensure that prospects are able to engage at FBC

2. Facilitate Connections on Volunteer Teams: Help lead people in discovering their God-given uniqueness and help them plug into a ministry by:

  • Creating an environment and system that is conducive for engaging new people, or those not yet currently serving, into ministry
  • Working with ministry team leaders to recruit, train and empower volunteer team members
  • Facilitating leadership development strategy for volunteers
  • Providing centralized efforts for training leaders (retreats, tools, etc.)
  • Communicating clear vision and celebrating “wins” for volunteer teams on a regular basis
  • Producing videos, graphics, announcements, website information, etc. about ways to serve at FBC
  • Coordinating with ministry leaders to measure and monitor volunteer service

3. Oversee and Execute FBC Membership Strategy:

  • Connects prospects with the FBC vision
  • Helps members discover their unique purpose and provides next steps to fully engage in church life
  • Works with Minister of Discipleship to create church orientation classes and connection opportunities
  • Works with Leadership Team to build systems and structures that lead people from being guests to attenders, attenders to members, and members to serving in ministry

4. Manage Two-Way Communication Flow: Create an environment that provides two-way communication between the congregation and church leadership by:

  • Removing barriers that keep people from connecting
  • Evaluating messages and materials in the context of guest perspectives

5. Oversee and Execute Communications and Marketing: Create simple, consistent messaging across multiple touch points to help people connect with FBC:

Website:

  • Manage all aspects of FBC website, displaying artistic and creative excellence, timely content, current and appropriate for FBC
  • Manage and maintain audio/video podcasts and downloadable documents
  • Proactively work to make sure FBC maintains an effective presence on the web including style/presence, search engines, new technology

Print:

  • Deliver excellence in timeliness, accuracy, design, layout and ease of use for brochures, signage, surveys, etc.

Promotions:

  • Develop systems to organize, prioritize and communicate promotional items related to FBC
  • Create communication strategies to market, inform and promote teaching series, big events and other campaigns assigned
  • Oversee all written materials related to promotions

Social Media:

  • Create social media presence for FBC including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
  • Manage on-going social media messaging and communication strategies
  • Build followings on various social media outlets

Design:

  • Lead efforts to design all art and promotional materials related to church-wide activities with a high standard of creativity, excellence and effectiveness
  • Network with paid and volunteer artists to develop graphic designs

Video:

  • Produce creative and effective promotional videos: concepts, scripting, video shoots, editing and post-production
  • Strategize and create tactics to use video to tell stories of transformation occurring in and through the lives of FBC members

Brand Management:

  • Monitor the look, vibe and feel of all promotional materials representing FBC
  • Monitor and establish accountability for the appropriate use of logos and images that represent FBC
  • Oversee implementation of style guide (fonts, terms, color schemes, etc.)

Accountability:

The Director of Connections will oversee the Media Director, reports directly to the Senior Pastor, and will be evaluated at least annually based on this job description.

 


Data Coordinator/Receptionist

General Job Description:

This position is often the first point of contact for guests, venders, prospective members, families, etc. on our campus.  This person will be expected to serve as a “gatekeeper” for the staff - discerning and handling issues that do not require their intervention. This individual must be continuously growing in their faith, believe in the power of Christians gathering as the church, and must be committed to the direction and mission of FBC-Tyler. This is a full-time position with several benefits including health insurance, retirement, four day work week to name a few. Job Classification:

            This is an exempt administrative position and is full-time.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Shelby data base or other program used by the church, Google calendaring and mail, social media, and others.
  • Fulfillment of the requirements for and maintenance of membership in First Baptist Church of Tyler.
  • Spiritual maturity and a positive work attitude.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist employees, families, and other visitors to the office.
  • Answer the main phone line(s) and direct calls to the appropriate ministry. This includes retrieving messages.
  • Pursue learning new skills to improve overall efficiency.
  • Answer/forward emails in a timely manner.
  • Gather mail/packages and make sure the appropriate people receive them.
  • Correspond with church members when necessary, regarding church communications.
  • Maintain and update church membership information, including computer database.
  • Receive and coordinate guest information. And guest correspondence.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities designated by the Administrative Pastor.
  • Maintain the church’s calendar and assist with all calendar request forms for staff and outside groups.
  • Office hours 8-5, Monday through Thursday.
  • Ordering office supplies and maintain all office equipment.
  • Prepare documents, manuals, and other publications at the Ministry staff’s guidance and direction.
  • Check National Registry for RSO procedures via “So Loved”
  • Keep Background checks up to date for staff and volunteers
  • Post attendance each week.
  • Prepare and maintain prospects lists.
  • Distribute Sunday School rolls and announcements as needed.
  • Assist other secretarial staff with various tasks.
  • Assist special guests and groups who use the facilities.
  • Be familiar with and able to articulate the organizational structure of FBC Tyler.
  • Know weaknesses and strengths in self. Seek helpers to make allowances for the former and to encourage the latter.
  • Steward well the property and facilities of FBC and the local community.
  • Comply with all established church policies and procedures as well as all applicable federal and state laws
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned

Accountability:

The Data Coordinator/Receptionist will report directly to the Administrative Pastor.  He/She will be evaluated at least annually by the Administrative Pastor based on this job description.
